Running is by far the most addictive of all the exercises I have done so far. I know that most of you think it’s hard and very painful but in essence it’s not and once you are hooked to the endorphins it produces you will understand what I mean by really being Spaddicted!! .I would say that when I don’t run I am clinically depressed from lack of it.
Running must be taken slowly at first and I would not recommend running until you are light and strong enough to avoid injury. I only started running properly about 8 months(50KG) into my diet. Before this I would power walk in Sand dunes and on the road. It is essential you build up all the correct muscles to support your body in order to avoid injury. Also one of the most essential parts of doing it correctly is using the best shoes and orthotics if you need them.
Running shoes have become one of my biggest expenses but well worth the investment. Don’t buy the cheapest shoe and try to go into a professional store for good advice not your regular sports store in the mall where there is a 16 year old kid who does not know the 1st thing about pronation and what shoe will be best for YOU.
Who would have believed that I would be voluntarily be running 10km Races and even a half marathon (21.2Km) if you told them this 2 years ago? I still cannot believe it myself but believe me it can all be done just make the switch in your head and go for it.
